Choose between a golf resort stay and a touring holiday, with a practical look at transfers, group preferences and the true pace of your trip.
Start with how you want the days to feel.
A resort week and a golf road trip can both be wonderful. They ask different things of you. A single base offers familiarity: the same room, an easier breakfast routine and less packing. Touring brings variety, but every change of hotel takes time away from the holiday. Decide which trade-off suits this particular trip.
Count the whole travel day.
A flight time is only one part of a journey. Add baggage collection, oversized golf bags, rental-car paperwork and the drive to your accommodation. For a road trip, check whether four people and four travel cases actually fit in the vehicle you are considering. A small upgrade in transport can make a large difference to the mood of the group.
Compare what a package includes.
Read the exact course names, number of rounds, transfer arrangements, meal inclusions and cancellation terms. Ask whether rental clubs, buggies or caddies are extra. A headline package price is not the same as the total cost of the trip, and availability on a preferred course is worth confirming before payment.
Plan for the people who are coming.
Some golfers want 36 holes a day. Others want a morning round and an afternoon elsewhere. Non-golfing companions need a holiday of their own, rather than a list of things to do while they wait. Put everyone’s priorities on the table and protect a few shared moments in the itinerary.
A simple rule for the first trip.
If the group is new to travelling together, start with one base and a manageable number of rounds. You can always make the next trip more ambitious. The best itinerary is the one you are happy to be living on day four, not the one with the most impressive spreadsheet.
